Vladimir Morozov Is Back To The 50 Free Top Again At Russian Nationals

Vlad Morozov heads first into the tonight’s 50 free semifinals on day 6 at Russian Nationals. Sizzling Siberian who won 100 free earlier yesterday and already qualified for the team, posted a solid 21.75 in prelims – the result to get in the world’s top 6 this year. Morozov’s best result from last year was 21.56 at World Championships in Kazan where he placed fifth. 21.75 is quite under Olympic Cut 22.01 which makes his morning swim even more impressive.

Andrey Grechin who along with Morozov made the team in the 100 free, grabbed the second seed with 22.14. Alexey Bryansky was third, 22.39. Evgeny Sedov many expected to fight for the podium and ticket to Rio, posted 23.17 and ended up 17th – he won’t swim in semifinals.

Irina Prikhodko showed the fastest prelims in the 200 back. Her 2:10.27 placed her first for semifinals, the whole second ahead of Darya K. Ustiniva who went 2:11.27. Anastasia Fesikova was third, 2:11.62. Ustiniova and Fesikova have already qualified for Olympics in the 100 back.

Svetlana Chimrova who earlier won 100 and 200 fly, qualified first for 50 fly finals. Her time 26.67 was faster than Rosalia Nasretdinova‘s (26.92) National record holder’s Natalia Lovtsova (27.05).

Alexander Popkov was top seed for the 100 fly semis with 52.68. Alexander Sadovnikov who won 50 fly last night with result within world’s top 5, posted 52.70 and Evgeny Koptelov was third with 52.95.

Anastasia Kirpichnikova got top seed for 800 free finals with 8:49.98. Arina Opyonysheva (8:51.91) and Valeria Salamatina (8:53.14) to round out the top 3 for the finals.
