Years before Townley Haas gained notoriety as a swimmer and began winning NCAA titles and Olympic medals, his older sister Emily Haas was hurt during a mass shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007. In the below video from Longhorn Network, Townley and his mother, Lori, recall that incident.

Townley recalls hearing the news that his sister had been shot and injured and remembers his reaction. The feature then jumps forward almost ten years, showing how Emily celebrated Townley’s first Olympic gold in Rio and then how Townley supported his sister when she returned to Blacksburg, Va., last month to mark the ten-year anniversary of the incident.
