Tyler Clary made an appearance at the ASCA World Clinic in Ft. Lauderdale this week, where he handed out the Age Group Coach of the Year award to the Sarasota YMCA’s Sherwood Watts Thursday night. Clary sat down with Swimming World a day later to explain what it meant to him to give out that honor.

Clary also discussed what he has been up to since finishing third in the 200 back at the Olympic Trials. He explained that he has not ruled out a return to swimming but that right now his focus will be on Fitter and Faster Tour clinics and on his burgeoning auto racing career.

Clary also discussed Ryan Murphy, who succeeded him as Olympic gold medalist in the 200 back in Rio. Clary explained how it felt while watching to see Murphy extend the American winning streak in that event.
