17-year-old Nikol Popov picked up the third seed in the women’s 200 IM during Thursday morning’s prelims at the AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta. Afterwards, Popov spoke with Swimming World’s David Rieder about the performance and what she’s expecting from the rest of the meet.
Popov discussed her experience this summer at Olympic Trials, where she finished as high as 29th in the 100 breast, and she explained what she has taken away from that coming into her senior year of high school. She also explained why she chose to come east to swim at Tennessee and what it will be like swimming next to Olympian Melanie Margalis in the evening final.
