Micah Lawrence never thought she was going to compete again after she finished fourth her signature 200 breast at the 2016 Olympic Trials. She was a 2012 Olympian and a two-time World Championship medalist, but a rough Olympic year had drained her passion for the sport.

But now, known as Micah Sumrall after getting married in early 2017, she’s back. Sumrall finished second in the 200 breast at the TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Mesa, and she explained afterwards why she decided to come back: Through coaching, she once again found her desire to swim and race. She explained where she is in the comeback process and how being married has added structure to her swimming.
