Kathleen Baker won the women’s 100 backstroke after winning the 200 backstroke earlier this week. In addition she set a new U.S. Open record, her first major record. Baker has been riding a wave of momentum since Rio, and she feels that everything just clicked for her at the Olympics.
Olivia Smoliga has qualified for Worlds after finishing second to Baker in the 100 backstroke. After slipping on her start yesterday in the 50 backstroke and failing to make the final, Smoliga was nervous coming into today. In the end she found herself on the Worlds team and looks forward to representing the U.S. with Baker in Budapest.
