Despite narrowly missing out on his third Olympic team this summer, Cullen Jones is not yet ready to call it a career. In an interview at the Golden Goggle awards Wednesday night, he announced that he will be returning to the pool in January and that he is strongly considering heading back to NC State, where he swam during his undergrad years, to train with the sprint group under Todd DeSorbo.

Jones also explained what it meant to him to be back at Golden Goggles after a disappointing summer and some of the history behind pieces of his wardrobe.

Great career, but time to hang it up. American swimmers have the hardest time moving into the real world after swimming.

Speedo pays them to train so why fire yourself from a decent paying job? Cullen’s job is to keep the story alive for 2020 and provide the perception that there is a glimmer of hope. Yawn..
