Kansas’ Chelsie Miller had one of the morning’s most impressive efforts in the 400 IM, cutting more than a second and a half from her best time to qualify for the championship final with a 4:07.60. But she had already had an exciting day when three of her Jayhawk teammates surprised her this morning after they drove 14 hours across the country to watch their senior captain swim.

Those three teammates, Yalduz Kuchkarova, Pia Pavlic and Sammie Schurig, spoke after Miller’s race to Swimming World’s David Rieder to explain why they decided to make the trip, how they surprised Miller and how they reacted to Miller’s race.
