Utah Swimming & Diving Hires New Diving Coach

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 19. RICHARD Marschner has been hired as the diving coach at the University of Utah, head swimming and diving coach Greg Winslow announced Tuesday.

"I am very excited about the direction our diving program is headed and know that Richard can lead our divers to the top of the MWC and beyond," Winslow said. "He will add a lot of enthusiasm to our program and we are excited to have Richard as a part of our team."

Prior to joining the Ute program, Marschner established and served as the head coach of the diving team at the University of New Orleans. He coached two divers to the NCAA Zone D meet in the second year of the program and had 11 competitors finish among the top eight at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. His athletes also earned 10 Sun Belt Diver of the Week awards in his two seasons.

In the classroom, his teams earned four Team Academic All-American awards. The Privateer men's team had the eighth-highest GPA in the country for the 2008 fall semester and also placed two divers on Sun Belt Conference Honor Roll for 2008-09.

During the summers in New Orleans, Marschner was the head dive coach and assistant coach at the Green Acres Country Club in Metairie, La. Before moving to Louisiana, Marschner spent four years as the assistant dive coach for Louisville Area Diving. He also was the head dive coach for three summers at the Owl Creek Country Club in Louisville from 2002-04.

Marschner attended the University of Louisville from 2000-05 and graduated with a bachelor of art's degree in political science and a bachelor of science degree in justice administration.
