USA Water Polo Names Ramsey as First CEO

LOS ALAMITOS, California, October 19. USA Water Polo, Inc. has named Christopher Ramsey as the first Chief Executive Officer in its 106-year history as an Olympic sport. The CEO position was created as part of a new governance structure adopted in May to streamline operational decisions within the sport. As CEO, Ramsey will be responsible for the USA Olympic water polo program, as well as sport development nationwide.

His experience as a successful business leader, coupled with his personal background in the sport provides a very attractive foundation for his new role," said Michael Graff, Chairman of the USA Water Polo Board of Directors. "Chris brings a broad range of skills and experience, most recently leading the business activities of the New York City Ballet, a world class not-for-profit institution. He has a proven record of success and brings great passion to his new position."

"Water Polo is the world's premiere aquatic game, and it has a rich Olympic history," said Ramsey. "The sport has given a great deal to those of us who have played it and coached it, and I am eager to begin working with the board, staff and membership of USA Water Polo to help our sport realize its full potential across America."

Prior to joining USA Water Polo, Ramsey served as Director of External Affairs at the New York City Ballet for 11 years. In this role, he was broadly responsible for the company's earned and philanthropic income. His areas of oversight included development, marketing and communications, educational programs, special media such as film and publishing, online media, research, editorial and archival services, volunteer and program resources, strategic planning, as well as retail operations. As a member of the company's senior managerial counsel, he was also involved in establishing policy for union agreements, touring and theater management.

Before joining the New York City Ballet, Ramsey was a senior administrator for MacNeil/Lehrer Productions for twelve years which produced The MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour on PBS, as well as other special series for public and commercial television including The Story of English, C. Everett Koop, M.D. and Learning in America.

A cum laude graduate of the University of Redlands in Music and English, Ramsey played varsity water polo in high school and college in Southern California. He earned a master's degree in Fine Arts from Cornell University.

Born in Southern California, Ramsey has been active on the East Coast as a board member and volunteer youth coach for Greenwich Water Polo. He was named the 2005 USA Water Polo Volunteer Coach of the Year, and is also certified as a referee. He and his wife, Lynne, have been married for 19 years and have three sons, Colin, James, and Evan.
