USA Swimming To Host World Cup Event

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – USA Swimming announced it will host a stop on the FINA World Cup circuit on Dec. 1-2, 1998 in College Station, TX. The U.S. has never participated in the World Cup, which has traditionally been held in Europe, Asia and South America. “I think it opens a whole new world of competition and whole new wave of publicity for the sport,” said Jon Olsen, 1996 Olympic team captain.

The U.S. will not only host a World Cup event, but in 1999, will field teams to compete in all 12 stops on the circuit. The World Cup event in the U.S. will precede the U.S. Open Championships in College Station, TX on Dec. 3-5.
