USA Swimming Sectionals, Oxford: Club Wolverine Dominates Second Night

OXFORD, Ohio, July 21. THE second night of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Sectionals in Oxford, Ohio featured Club Wolverine capturing the lion's share of the event titles.

Club Wolverine's Kristyne Cole won the women's 200 free in 2:02.86 to clear the listed meet record of 2:03.44 set by Kate McNellis in March. Greater Toledo's Laura Heckroth finished second in 2:04.22, while Ohio's Amanda Traylor placed third in 2:04.41.

Club Wolverine's Charlie Houchin lowered his own listed record of 1:49.80 set during prelims of the men's 200 free with a winning time of 1:48.30 at night. His prelim time cleared the 1:51.70 set by Rob Andrews in 2007. Adam DeJong of Club Wolverine took second in 1:48.66 with Westerville's Kyle McNeilis placing third in 1:50.93.

Club Wolverine's Margaret Kelly provided the first sub-1:00 time in meet history in the women's 100 fly with a 59.66. That time beat her prelim record of 1:00.53, which lowered the listed record of 1:00.87 set by Darcy Fishback in 2008. Caitlin Dauw of Club Wolverine took second in 1:01.19 with Cincinnati Marlin Sarah Tanner finishing third in 1:01.71.

Club Wolverine's Neal Kennedy won the men's 100 fly in 54.20 with Ohio State's Lincoln Fahrbach touching second in 54.61. Cincinnati Marlin John Carroll completed the top three in 54.95.

Ashlee Edgell of the Mason Manta Rays ended the Club Wolverine win streak with a 4:59.08 in the women's 400 IM for the win. Donner's Myra Retrum, 15, finished second in 4:59.14, while Ohio's Traylor took her second third-place finish with a 4:59.97.

Ohio State's Justin Farra touched in 4:24.45 to win the men's 400 IM and beat the listed meet record of 4:26.92 previously held by Aaron Opell. Boilermaker's Andre Koop placed second in 4:29.70 with Ohio State's Michael Hulme taking third in 4:29.80.

Club Wolverine's Kelly, Leigh Cole, Kristyne Cole and Liz Koselka won the women's 800 free relay in 8:19.35. That time beat the listed meet record of 8:33.58 set by M.E. Lyons last year. Cincinnati Marlins Brian Howell, Matthew Columbus, William Lawley and David Mosko posted a 7:34.21 to win the men's 800 free relay. That readout bested the listed meet record of 7:41.27 set in 2008 by the Oakland Live Y'ers.
