GRESHAM, Oregon, July 19. DURING the first night of distance swimming, the 800 free titles were up for grabs at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Gresham, Ore. The meet is taking place in long course meters format.
Sun Devil's Alex Aitchison topped the women's 800 free with a time of 8:53.89, while North Jeffco's Abigail Houck picked up second-place honors with a time of 8:58.28. DU Hilltopper Paige Newell snared third in 8:58.43.
Tualatin Hills' Cameron Stitt cruised to victory in the men's 800 free with an 8:17.53. Kamehameha's Ian Wheeler took second place in 8:21.03, while Sun Devil's Josh Olszewski picked up third in 8:23.60.
The first full day of standard preliminary, finals action begins tomorrow.
