USA Swimming Names Open Water World Championships Staff

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, October 26. BILL Rose, head coach and CEO of the Mission Viejo Nadadores, has been named head coach of the 2008 U.S. Open Water World Championships Team that will compete in Seville, Spain next spring. The 2008 FINA Open Water World Championships will serve as a direct qualifying event for the 2008 Olympic Games where the 10K will debut as an Olympic event. Rose will be assisted by University of North Carolina assistant coach Catherine Vogt.

"In my opinion, there is no coach in America more committed to open water than Bill Rose," said Mark Schubert, national team head coach and general manager. "His experience and success speaks volumes, and I'm confident in his ability to lead our team into this very important Olympic qualifying event."

As the head coach and CEO of the Mission Viejo Nadadores, Rose oversees a club of approximately 800 swimmers. He was named the 2006 USA Swimming Developmental Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the 2007 United States Olympic Committee Developmental Coach of the Year award. Rose serves as personal coach for two World Championships-bound swimmers in Micha Burden (10K) and Chad LaTourette (5K).

Vogt is an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina and serves as personal coach of World Championships team members Chip Peterson (10K) and Josef Kinderwater (5K). Under her guidance, 2008 hopeful Peterson has collected two international medals, winning a gold medal in the 10K at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships and a silver medal in the 10K at the 2007 Pan American Games. Vogt has worked on multiple U.S. National Team staffs, and most recently served as the head coach for open water swimming at the 2007 Pan American Games.

Also named to the staff today were Santa Barbara Swim Club Head Coach John Dussliere, who will serve as team manager, and Paul Asmuth, who will serve as special assistant to the National Team head coach.
