USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Lara Jackson Captures 50 Free Title

PALO ALTO, California, August 4. TUCSON Ford's Lara Jackson dipped under 25 seconds to win the women's 50 free at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.
Jackson posted a time of 24.98 to move to 17th in the world this year, and into second in the American rankings behind Jessica Hardy's 11th-ranked 24.80 from May. Madison Kennedy placed second this evening in the splash-and-dash with a 25.09 to move into a 22nd-ranked tie with Dana Vollmer. Colorado Stars' Kara Lynn Joyce placed third overall in 25.19.
Stanford's Kate Dwelley (25.27), Stanford's Samantha Woodward (25.33), SwimAtlanta's Amanda Weir (25.40), Tucson Ford's Margo Geer (25.42), Tucson Ford's Kait Flederbach (25.48), AGUA's Lia Neal (25.57) and T2's Anne-marie Botek (25.71) also competed for the national title in the championship heat this evening.
California's Liv Jensen touched out Colorado Stars' Missy Franklin, 25.44 to 25.54, in the B final. Meanwhile, FST's Shara Stafford and Wisconsin's Rebecca Thompson tied for the C final win with matching times of 25.79.
