USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Allison Schmitt Cruises to 200 Free Crown

PALO ALTO, California, August 3. NBAC's Allison Schmitt snared the women's 200 free title at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.
Schmitt raced home with a 1:57.94 to win the event, well off her World Championship time of 1:56.66 that ranks her eighth in the world this year. Missy Franklin is the top ranked swimmer in the world with a 1:55.06 relay leadoff.
Pleasanton's Catherine Breed turned in a silver-winning time of 1:58.86, while Tucson Ford's Alyssa Anderson wound up with bronze in 1:59.31.
Chelsea Nauta (1:59.46), Dagny Knutson (1:59.49), Megan Romano (1:59.56), Lauren Perdue (1:59.69), Lindsay Gendron (2:00.02), Jamie Bohunicky (2:00.18) and Shannon Vreeland (2:01.51) also vied for the national title alongside Schmitt.
Athens Bulldog Morgan Scroggy (1:59.74) and Stanford's Maya Dirado (1:59.91) both cracked 2:00 for the top two finishes in the B final, while Stanford's Kate Dwelley raced to a C final win in 1:59.13.
