USA Swimming was honored with the PR News Diversity & Inclusion Campaign Award during PR News’ Annual Winter Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C. at the National Press Club. PR News highlighted USA Swimming’s Cultural Inclusion Resource Guides which included the organization’s first-ever African-American, LGBTQ and Hispanic/Latino guides in both English and Spanish.

The PR News Diversity and Inclusion Awards showcase top public relations professionals, organizations and campaigns that put diversity and inclusion at the center of its messaging and demonstrates an overall commitment to diversity for the organization.

“I’m proud of our entire team at USA Swimming whose collaborative efforts have contributed to this award and to making the sport of swimming more inclusive,” said Mariejo “MJ” Truex, USA Swimming Director of Programs and Services. “By creating educational resources, we’re ensuring that our membership is informed of our policies, procedures and best practices to increase opportunities for community engagement and programming.”

This is one of many projects the organization’s Diversity & Inclusion team uses to create a culture of inclusion and opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to race, age, income, ethnicity, religion, gender expression and sexual orientation. By providing educational tools at all levels via staff, Local Swim Committees, coaches and athletes, USA Swimming is creating deeper relationships with and providing meaningful resources to underrepresented communities.

Other PR News Diversity & Inclusion Campaign Honorees include: Ascension (Addressing Healthcare Needs of Diverse Communities, One Story at a Time), ATB Financial  (Postcard Stories Diversity and Inclusion Awareness Campaign), Burson-Marsteller (Together Being More), CITGO Petroleum Corporation (Official Fuel Sponsorship for the 2015 Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America), FleishmanHillard (FH4Inclusion), Hill+Knowlton Strategies (#NotYourMascot: Bringing a Human Rights Issue to Center Field), HP Inc. (Bringing HP’s Culture of Diversity and Innovation to Life), Mastercard (PRIDE Mastercard Mexico and Central America Chapter Launch) and Moet Hennessy USA (Women @ MHUSA Initiative).

In addition to recognizing the Diversity & Inclusion Campaign Honorees, PR News also celebrated the finalists for the PR People Awards and the honorees for the Rising PR Stars 30 & Under Awards and Top Places to Work in PR Awards.
