USA Swimming Announces 65 Member National Junior Team

This afternoon USA Swimming announced the 2016-2017 National Junior Team. To be a member of the National Junior Team, a swimmer must be 18 or under on September 1, 2016. The other selection criteria were revamped this year. The process was explained through a half hour webinar here. The team was built with a goal for long term success in mind.

Five swimmers are named to the team in three events.

Last week, USA Swimming named 106 athletes to the USA Swimming National Team.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming today announced the 65 members of the 2016-17 USA Swimming National Junior Team, honoring many of the nation’s top 18-and-under swimmers for their performances in 2016.

The complete National Junior Team roster can be found online here. National Junior Team members must be age 18 or under on Sept. 1, 2016.

Five swimmers earned National Junior Team status in a team-high three events: Margaret Aroesty (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Island Aquatic Club), Mallory Comerford (Kalamazoo, Mich./University of Louisville), Cameron Craig (Monroe, Mich./Club Wolverine), Isabel Ivey (Gainesville, Fla./Gator Swim Club) andMaxime Rooney (Livermore, Calif./Pleasanton Seahawks).

2016-17 National Junior Team by the Numbers:
· 65 swimmers named to the National Junior Team

· 27 states represented; Florida tops the list with seven selections

· 50-plus USA Swimming clubs represented, including seven clubs with multiple honorees

New selection procedures for the National Junior Team were unveiled earlier this year and can be found online at usaswimming.org. A webinar outlining the selection procedures is also available here.

Open water National Junior Team members qualified by placing among the top six 18-and-under finishers at the 2016 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships.

In addition to the National Junior Team, the 18 & Under World 100 will be announced next week.
