United States Sports Academy Offers Full Tuition Scholarship to U.S. Olympians

DAPHNE, Alabama, October 13. THE United States Sports Academy has announced an Olympian Scholarship Program, in which past and present United States Olympians can receive a full tuition scholarship into the Academy's Bachelor of Sports Science degree program.

Academy Founder and President Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich, a former Olympic coach, has developed the Olympian Scholarship as a way to give back to Olympic athletes who have dedicated themselves to accomplishing great things for the United States.

"The Academy has developed the Olympian Scholarship in recognition of our Olympic athletes," A.G. Applin, Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the Academy, said. "The Academy wants to give something back to Olympic athletes who have achieved great things and also have sacrificed a great deal for our country – including in some instances their own education."

The Academy's bachelor's degree in sports coaching, sports management or sports studies is offered entirely online through distance learning. This degree program is ideally suited to the needs of high performance athletes as the online courses are completely portable, and students can enroll in courses at any time and from any place. Thus, the athletes can pursue their studies around their training and competition regimens. Dr. Rosandich was a national track coach for Malaysia, Laos, Singapore, Borneo, and Indonesia in Olympiads from the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He was a consultant for the Panamanian Olympic Team in 1968, attended the 1972 Munich Olympics as a consultant for the Philippines, and was a Bahrain representative at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. In 1995, Dr. Rosandich was Team Leader for U.S. Team Handball at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The scholarship covers all tuition towards a Bachelor of Sports Science (B.S.S.) degree and a waiver of the application and transcript evaluation fees. To be eligible, students must meet the requirements for full admission into the Academy's bachelor's degree program and have 60 semester hours of undergraduate work completed. Applicants must submit at least two letters of recommendation, preferably from coaches or administrators.

To view admission requirements, download the Academy's bachelor's degree catalog at www.ussa.edu or call the Academy at (800) 223-2668. The deadline for applications is 15 December 2006. The Academy will offer a limited number of tuition scholarships for those Olympians who apply. Applicants will be reviewed by a Committee who will take into account financial needs among other criteria. Federal financial aid is also available for those who may need additional assistance beyond the scholarship.

The United States Sports Academy is an independent, non-profit, accredited, special mission sports university created to serve the nation and the world with programs in instruction, research and service. The role of the Academy is to prepare men and women for careers in the profession of sports.
