Ugne Mazutaityte Lowers Lithuanian National Record in 200 Backstroke

Over the course of the first two days of action at the 2016 Lithuanian Championships, one national mark was lowered and six meet records fell.

Ugne Mazutaityte lowered her own national record in the women’s 200 backstroke. She touched in 2:12.68 in the finale, faster than her mark set at the long course meet following NCAAs. In March, the Fresno State swimmer posted a 2:12.83.

Martin Allikvee posted a meet record of 2:12.80 on his way to winning the men’s 200 breaststroke.

Deividas Margevicius recorded another meet record with a win in the 100 butterfly. He touched the wall in 53.53, just ahead of second place Tadas Duskinas in 53.66, as both cleared the old record of 53.76. Though not in record setting time, Margevicius swam a 2:04.19 to win the 200 butterfly.

In the 200 freestyle, Danas Rapsys beat his own meet record with a 1:48.83, finishing nearly six seconds ahead of the field.

The women’s 100 backstroke saw another meet record go down as Ugne Mazutaitye finished in 1:02.76.

Natassia Karakouskaya improved her own meet record with a 25.73 in the 50 freestyle, just ahead of Gabriela Nikitina in 25.81. She went on to win the 100 with a 57.14, just ahead of Karakouskaya in 57.30. Nikitina touched in meet record time of 27.32 in the 50 butterfly.

Dominyka Rapsyte won the women’s 200 butterfly with a 2:24.75. In the women’s 400 freestyle, Vikte Labanauskaite was the champion with her 4:34.86.

First to the wall in the men’s 400 IM was Nikita Sharapov in 4:37.05. In the women’s event it was Ieva Jaceviciute in 5:03.52.

In 26.00 Gytis Stankevicius topped the men’s 50 backstroke final. In the 100, he stopped the clock in 55.79 to win the event. Agne Seleikaite took the women’s 50 back with a 32.78.

Greta Gataveckaite won the women’s 800 freestyle with a 9:35.80. Grantas Dapkus was the men’s 400 freestyle champion with a 4:06.90.

Povilas Strazdas swam a 2:04.80 to win the men’s 200 IM by over 3 seconds. It took a 22.62 for Mindaugas Sadauskas to win the men’s 50 freestyle. Giedrius Titenis posted a 27.94 to earn the men’s 50 breaststroke title.

Without Ruta Meilutyte competing, Maria Romanjuk took home victory in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 1:10.02.
