UC Davis Women’s Water Polo: Wright Elevated to Full-Time Status

DAVIS, CA – Jamey Wright was named full-time head coach for women’s water polo at UC Davis. Wright, who was the part-time coach of the Aggies for 16 seasons, will be the first full-time coach of the program, which was elevated from club to varsity status three years ago. He was the successful candidate in a search that brought inquiries from throughout the nation.

“I’m overwhelmed. When you get your dream job, it’s great,” said Wright, an alumnus of UC Davis. “To be involved with something you do for 16 years purely for the fun of it, and to now get paid to do it is pretty amazing.”

This season, the Aggies finished 26-12 overall, including a school-record 12-game winning streak. UC Davis, which won the inaugural Western Water Polo Association women’s championship, placed seventh at the Collegiate National Championships, hosted by the Aggies at Hickey Pool.

Wright has also been involved in Davis community swimming programs, coaching with the Davis Aquatic Masters and the Davis Aquadarts. Wright, who was captain of the UCD men’s swim team and an All-American in 1980, earned a B.A. in political science from UC Davis in 1980 and received a teaching credential in 1981. He was awarded a juris doctorate from UC Davis’ King Hall School of Law in 1984.
