UC Davis Inks Five

DAVIS, California, November 28. FIVE high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent during the early November signing period to compete for the UC Davis women's swimming team next fall, head coach Barbara Jahn announced this past week. The prospects are Amanda Holman of Los Lomas High in Walnut Creek, Tyler Ring of Lodi High, Michelle Camburn of Homestead High in Sunnyvale, Linda Hermann of Torrey Pines High in San Diego and Rebecca Koch Mountain View High in Los Altos.

"It's the beginning of a strong recruiting class for the 2007-08 season," said Jahn. "It is definitely a solid group. We look forward to having these student-athletes as a part of the program and I'm excited to see what they can accomplish during their careers here at UC Davis."

A sprint freestyler, Holman excels in the 50 free. She is a Scholastic All-American from the Diablo Foothill Athletic Conference. Holman has also been honored by the California Scholarship Federation.

Also a freestyler, Ring is a standout in the 200 and 500 free events. Last season she won the San Joaquin Athletic Association title in the 200 free while placing third in the event at sectionals with a time of 1:53.79. She also won the league crown in the 500 free in 2006 while finishing fifth at sectionals in 5:02.52. Also a driver for the water polo team, Ring was named to the All-SJAA First Team twice while also garnering San Joaquin sectional distinctions.

Camburn's top events include the 500 free and the 200 individual medley. Last year she won the Santa Clara Valley title in the 500 free and 200 IM. She placed sixth at regionals in the 500 free. She was also a league and sectional finalists in both events during her freshman and sophomore seasons. As a member of the Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics Club, Camburn was a sectional qualifier in seven events and was named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in 2005 and 2006.

A solid all-around swimmer, Hermann is the two-time defending CIF champion in the 200 free. She is also a member of the All-America Interscholastic swimming team as a member of the 200 medley, 400 free and 200 free relay teams. She also won the Palomar League title in the 200 free last year. As a member of the Rancho San Dieguito club team, Hermann holds the team record in the 50, 100 and 200 free and the 200 backstroke and was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer last year. Hermann earned All-Palomar League Honorable Mention last year as a driver on the water polo team.

Koch is standout performer in the 100 butterfly, 100 back and 50 free. She earned the De Anza league title in the 100 fly and second in the 50 free during her sophomore season in 2005. Last year she placed second and third, respectively, in each event en route to earning the team's Most Valuable Player award. Koch recorded All-American times as a member of the 200 and 400 free relay teams as a freshman while also recording All-American consideration times in the 100 fly. Koch is also a member of the Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics Club. She was the sectional champion in the 50 free while also competing in the 100 back and 100 fly.
