U.S. Men, Women Name Water Polo Rosters for Doha World Championships

The U.S. named their rosters for the men’s and women’s water polo tournaments at the Doha World Championships, which start this week.

Both teams named 15-person rosters, of which 13 players will be active for each match day. The U.S. women open up the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 4, with a match against reigning World and European champion Netherlands. The men open a day later against Montenegro.

Almost the entire roster from last summer’s fifth-place finish at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, is retained on the women’s side, with 14 holdovers. Only Denise Mammolito has been added to a group that includes six members of the Tokyo Olympic gold medal side – Ashleigh Johnson, Maddie Musselman, Rachel Fattal, Maggie Steffens, Amanda Longan and Kaleigh Gilchrist.

The U.S. men bring back 10 players from the last Olympic roster, the Americans having finished sixth in Tokyo.

The U.S. men are drawn into Group C with Montenegro, Japan and Serbia. The quarterfinals are Feb. 13 with the final medal placements Feb. 17.

The American women are drawn with Netherlands, Brazil and Kazakhstan. The final round on the women’s side is Feb. 16. All matches are available to stream on Peacock.

Both teams have already clinched their spots at the Paris Olympics this summer as champions of the Pan Am games.
