U.S. Masters Swimming Adds Three Club Development Coordinators

SARASOTA, Florida, October 26. IN addition to 11% membership growth in 2009, U.S. Masters Swimming has experienced a 7% growth in the number of registered USMS clubs. Under the direction of Club and Coach Services Coordinator Mel Goldstein, USMS has added three additional development coordinators to better serve current Masters programs as well as grow additional USMS programs.

Jim Halstead, Club Development Coordinator for Dixie and Colony Zones
Halstead serves as a coach and Chief Operating Officer for Curl Burke Masters Swimming (CUBU Masters). Over the past five years, Halstead and head coach Frank Marcinkowski have built the CUBU Masters Program to more than 525 registered USMS members. Halstead's ability to align strategic partnerships and execute a professional business model with a commitment to quality coaching has helped make CUBU Masters the largest program outside of California. Additionally, Halstead will work with the USMS Coaches Committee to help revise the ASCA Masters Coaching Program.

Susan Ingraham, Club Development Coordinator for South Central and Southwest Zones, and SPMA LMSC
Ingraham has been coaching for more than 30 years, the last 10 years focused on Masters and other adult swim programs. She is the head coach for Masters of South Texas (MOST), based out of San Antonio; a program that she started from scratch. MOST has had great success at Zone Championships, Postal events, as well as hosting several open water events. Ingraham was recognized as the USMS 2008 Coach of the Year. Her experience will be invaluable in helping clubs grow their programs and succeed in a variety of areas, such as developing creative workouts, incorporating triathletes into swim programs, sports nutrition, empowerment of women through sport, and dryland exercises specifically designed for swimmers.

Lisa Dahl, Club Development Coordinator for Northwest Zone and Pacific LMSC
Dahl has spent forty years in swimming as a competitor, coach, swimmer, parent and volunteer. Dahl shows the same level of determination and endurance giving back to swimming as swimming gave to her. In Pacific Northwest Masters, among other new ideas, she has initiated a goody bag program for all first time competitors and a new swimmer clinic that provides a pressure free environment for Masters to explore competitive swimming.

"Jim, Susan and Lisa all share a love for Masters swimming and know first hand how important a coach is in that process," says USMS Club and Coach Development Coordinator Mel Goldstein. "We are so excited to have in place these tremendous individuals, each with significant Masters coaching experience, in key regions who can serve any of our Masters programs and be a resource to any coach or facility desiring to start a Masters program."
