Truman State Adds 12 Swimmers for 2017-18

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – With the departure of 14 seniors including six men and eight women after the 2016-17 season, Ed Pretre and the Truman State swimming program announced the signing of 12 student-athletes on Wednesday morning including six men and six women.

“On the men’s side, this is an extremely talented and untapped class that has tremendous potential,” said coach Pretre. “The character of these young men will help us continue the tradition of excellence that Truman swimming stands for. Coach Simek and I are very excited to work with this group on a daily basis and watch them improve.”

“With the women’s team, we filled in our major need with breastrokers and IMers that will help us score at conference and eventually compete at the national level,” said Pretre. “Having incoming breastrokers (Galluzzo, Hofer, Garrett, and Schranck) that range from 1:03 to 1:06 and 2:21 to 2:25 is exactly what we needed. Adding distance depth with Mensinger and Wilson will only make our distance group that much deeper on our team and within the conference.”

High School: Swam for a club team and ran cross country while attending Tuscaloosa Academy.

Personal: Son of Gwenn and Rick McKenzie … has two older sisters named Cora and Anna … plans to major in computer science.

Keegan Miller • Breast/IM • Utica, Ill. • La Salle Peru Township

High School: Started and lettered all four years at La Salle Peru Township High School … became the school’s first swimmer to go to state in 40 years due to the team being discontinued … Sectional Champion in the 100 breastroke with IHSA state qualifying time … Conference Champion in the 100 breastroke … All-Conference recipient … also played football and ran track … member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Son of Kerry and Julie Miller … has two older brothers named Justin and Josh … plans to major in nursing.

Jack McCormick • Sprint Free • Metamora, Ill. • Metamora Township

High School: Started and lettered for all four years … fastest times include 21.84 for the 50 free, 47.83 for the 100 free, 1:45.44 for the 200 free, and 52.9 for the 100 fly … named individual All-Conference twice for the 50 free and 100 free … school record holder in the 100 fly.

Personal: Son of Mic and Kathy McCormick … has a younger sister named Brooke … plans to major in exercise science.

Austin Bell • Breast/IM • Smithville, Mo. • Smithville

High School: Was a USA Club swimmer for 11 years … qualified for the Pro Am Classic Meet every year from 2012 through 2016 … qualified for the Sectional Championships (long and short courses) in 2015, 2016 and 2017 … academically, earned letters from 2013-17 and was a member of the Missouri All-Academic Team from 2013-17.

Personal: Son of Darren and Rebekah Bell … has a younger brother named Brady … plans to major in computer science.

Shane Williams • Sprint Free • Panama City, Fla. • A. Crawford Mosley

High School: Lettered and started all four years as a member of the swimming team … best times include 21.86 in the 50 free, 1:01.83 for the 100 breast and 48.72 for the 100 free … named All-District four times, All-Region four times, All-State three times, and All-County twice … earned academic letter and academic honors.

Personal: Son Maria and Tim Williams … has an older brother named Lucas … plans to major in business.

High School: Swam, played basketball and ran cross country … in the pool, started for three years and lettered for two as his fastest times included 1:01.04 for the 100 breast and 52.25 for the 100 free … All-Conference in the 200 medley relay, two-time All-Conference in the 100 breast, All-State in the 200 medley relay, and a state qualifier in the 100 breast.

Personal: Son of Tom and Debra O’Bryan … has two sisters (one older and one younger) and one brother (younger) named Lauren, Jenna and Ben, respectively … plans to major in engineering and physics.

Truman State Women’s Incoming Class

Megan Mensinger • Distance Free • Hermantown, Minn. • Hermantown • New York University

High School: Started and lettered for all four years … All-State twice, All-State academic twice and All-Conference four times … holds school records in the 200 and 500 free … named sectional swimmer of the year … achieved third place at state in the 500 free … in the classroom, finished with a 4.00 GPA, was at the top of her class and was on the honor roll all four years.

Personal: Daughter of Allen and Robin Mensinger … has an older brother named Matt … plans to major in biology.

Natalie Galluzzo • Breast/IM/Fly • West Des Moines, Iowa • Roosevelt

High School: Swam and ran cross country … in the pool, started and lettered for one year, and placed third at state as a sophomore in the 100 breast … holds school records for 100 breast and 200 IM … named All-Conference and Academic All-Conference … All-Conference performer as a cross country runner.

Personal: Daughter of Jennifer and Steve Galluzzo … has two younger sisters named Rachel and Sarah … plans to major in exercise science.

Ginny Schranck • Breast/IM • Alton, Ill. • Marquette Catholic

High School: Swam and played volleyball … in the pool, started and lettered for all four years and her fastest times included 2:21.87 in the 200 breast, 1:06.92 in the 100 breast, 2:16.18 in the 200 IM, 4:46.48 in the 400 IM, and 1:03.88 in the 100 fly … five-time qualifier for the YMCA Nationals … five-year qualifier for the USA Sectionals … high school’s record holder for the 100 breast … member of the National Honor Society.

Personal: Daughter of Charles and Julia Schranck … has eight older brothers named Chas, Barry, James, Stephen, Andrew, Doug, Phillip, and Nick … plans to major in health sciences with a focus in nutrition.

Annika Hofer • Breast/IM • Chesterfield, Mo. • Parkway Central

High School: Started and lettered all four years in the pool … fastest times include 1:05.00 for the 100 breast, 2:25.75 for the 200 breast, 2:09.85 for the 200 IM, 4:46.95 for the 400 IM, 25.92 for the 50 free, 5:21.56 for the 500 free, and 11:11.23 for the 1000 free … All-State three times and All-Conference four times … holds the school’s 200 medley relay record … achieved first place in the conference in the 100 breast four times … holds the second-fastest school record in the 100 breast and third-fastest school record in the 200 IM … member of the Parkway Central Swimming Wall of Fame … member of the National Honor Society and the National Foreign Language Honor Society.

High School: Started and lettered all four years … fastest times include 1:55.00 in the 200 free, 54.9 in the 100 free and 5:11.68 in the 500 free … All-Region finalist in 2013-17 … state qualifier in 2013 … holds records for the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 500 free, 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay … member of the National Honor Society and was a AP Scholar.
