Towson Picks Up Pair of Wins Against George Mason
FAIRFAX, Virginia, January 14. GEORGE Mason University's swimming & diving teams both fell to visiting Towson Saturday afternoon at the Aquatic & Fitness Center in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet. With this loss, the Patriots fall to 4-2 (4-2 CAA) on the women's side, and 0-6 both overall and in conference for the men's team.
On the women's side, the Patriots won six of the 16 events. Senior Liz Ouzts earned nine points for Mason as she finished the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.90 to place first. Junior Amanda Fielding and senior Colleen Flack swapped first and second places in the diving events as Fielding won the 1-meter (236.10), while Flack finished second (226.56). Then in the 3-meter event, Flack won with a score of 251.93 and Fielding was next as she tallied 238.05 points.
For the men, three athletes each won two events for the Patriots. Junior Matt Kane placed first in both the 1,000 free (9:48.82), as well as the 500 free (4:46.68). Senior Joe Houchin actually tied for first in the 100 butterfly as he and Chris Will of Towson clocked a time of 51.31. Houchin then placed first in the 200 fly in a time of 1:53.29. Sophomore Ryan Metzker swept the diving events as he posted 296.70 points in the 3-meter event and 252.00 points in the 1-meter event.
The Patriots will return to action when they compete at George Washington on Jan. 21 at 12 p.m.
