Tom Dolan, Gunnar Bentz, Tom Ugast Elected to USA Swimming Board of Directors
USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States, has announced the election of Gunnar Bentz, Tom Dolan, and Tom Ugast to its Board of Directors. The organization’s House of Delegates elected two members, and the USA Swimming 10-Year Athletes elected one 10-Year Athlete member.
USA Swimming is grateful to Katy Arris-Wilson, Kenneth Chung, and Maya (Dirado) Andrews for their service on the Board of Directors.
“The election of these new Board members reflects our ongoing commitment to attracting leaders who are deeply invested in our mission and future success,” said USA Swimming Chief Executive Officer Kevin Ring. “Their collective experience and passion will help guide USA Swimming as we pursue ambitious goals and continue creating positive impact for our members and communities.”
Tom Dolan is a two-time Olympian and three-time Olympic medalist, winning gold in the 400-meter individual medley at both the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, as well as silver in the 200-meter individual medley in Sydney. A former University of Michigan swimmer and International Swimming Hall of Fame inductee, Dolan previously served on the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Advisory Council and as an athlete member of the Board of Directors. He founded the Tom Dolan Swim School and currently serves as President of Corporate Pools for Big Blue Swim School, overseeing 22 locations.
Tom Ugast is a longtime club owner and coach who brings extensive experience developing swimmers at all levels of the sport. Throughout his career, Ugast has worked with athletes ranging from novice and age-group swimmers to those pursuing high school, collegiate, and elite-level opportunities. His experience as a club owner and coach provides a firsthand perspective on the role clubs play in athlete development and in supporting the broader success of USA Swimming. Ugast also brings previous Board experience, along with a background in fiscal oversight and LSC leadership.
Gunnar Bentz is a two-time Olympian and Olympic gold medalist who represented Team USA at the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. A former University of Georgia swimmer and team captain, Bentz has remained actively involved with USA Swimming since retiring from elite competition, serving on the USA Swimming Athletes’ Advisory Council, National Team Steering Committee, and House of Delegates. He also spent six months working with World Aquatics in Lausanne, Switzerland, and currently works in the data center industry.
