SYDNEY – Timothy Hodge has taken further steps to set himself up as the standout athlete of the meet, picking up three more gold medals and a silver on the second day of multi class (MC) racing at the Australian Age Championships.

In the morning session, Hodge was first in the boys’ 11-14 years 50m freestyle MC in 28.17 seconds (710 points), and then backed up his win with another gold in the 100m butterfly MC 10 minutes later.

“I’m pretty happy with how I have been going so far,” Hodge said. “I was hoping for better results in my earlier swims but I’m pretty happy. I’m really hoping to do well in the 100 back and get a PB – and do well in all my swims.”

The 14-year-old from Patrician Brothers school in Blacktown added two more medals to his growing tally when he won the 11-14 years 100m backstroke MC and took silver in the 50m 11-14 years breaststroke MC in the afternoon session.

Jenna Jones showed why she is on her road to Rio, winning the girls’ 11-14 yeas 50m freestyle in the morning session with plenty left in the tank.

The 14-year-old vision impaired swimmer touched the wall in 30.10 seconds, to earn 753 points, despite what she described as a bad finish.

“My taper missed me a bit at the end, so I slowed down which meant that I didn’t get the time that I wanted,” she said. “But I’m pretty happy with it.”

Like Hodge, Jones also added to her medal collection in the afternoon session, collecting two more gold in the 11-14 years 100m backstroke MC and 11-14 years 50m breaststroke MC.
