Three Wyoming Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-District VII Honors

LARAMIE, Wyoming, May 22. UNIVERSITY of Wyoming seniors Amiee Stinson and Tyler Miller were recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII at large First Team, and junior Emily Huth was named to the second team.

With these honors, the UW swimming and diving team continues a tradition of academic excellence. In fact, over the past four years, 11 UW swimmers and divers have earned All-District VII honors from ESPN the Magazine and CoSIDA.

Stinson, a Colorado Springs, Colo. native, has earned First Team All-District VII honors three consecutive years. This past season Stinson placed second in the 500 freestyle at the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships. In previous years Stinson was the MWC Champion in the 1650 freestyle and has earned a total of eight First Team All-MWC honors in her career. She owns three individual school records and on a relay team. Stinson has a 3.86 grade point average in Secondary Education with an emphasis in earth and space science. She also been an Academic All-MWC selection and an MWC Scholar Athlete throughout her career.

Miller, a Greeley, Colo. native, has earned First Team All-District VII honors for the second consecutive season. Miller led the Cowboys on the diving boards this past season. At the MWC Championships, Miller placed third on one-meter, eighth on three-meter and sixth on platform. Miller qualified for the 2009 NCAA Zone "E" Championships where he finished ninth on one and three-meter, and 13th on platform. During his career, he earned First Team All-MWC six times. Miller, a geology major, carries a 3.89 grade point average. He has also earned Academic All-MWC honors and has been named a conference scholar athlete throughout his career.

Huth, a Salt Lake City, Utah native, was named Second Team All-District VII. Last season she was second on the three-meter diving board at the MWC Championships behind teammate Steaphanie Ortiz. Huth also added a fourth place finish on one-meter and seventh on platform. Huth also qualified for the 2009 NCAA Zone "E" Championships and placed 18th on three-meter. Huth also competed in the 2009 Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships. She carries a 3.87 grade point average in Civil Engineering. She has been named Academic All-Conference and an MWC Scholar-Athlete in her career.

Both Stinson and Miller are now included on the Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on in the middle of June.

The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team is a part of the Academic All-America program. Student-athletes are selected in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA District VII is made up of the states of Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
