Three More Meet Records Downed at Mt. Hood Sectional
MT. HOOD, Oregon, July 13. DURING the fourth night of long course meter competition at the Mt. Hood Sectional three more meet records went by the wayside.
Ashley Evans, 15, of Brophy East got the ball rolling as three straight events featured meet records. Evans hit the wall in 4:14.51 in the 400 free to nip the 4:14.92 set by Lauren Thies 11 years ago on July 1, 1996.
Evans' teammate, Masafumi Tojo erased the men's 400 free meet record of 3:59.40 set by Jody Braden 15 years ago on July 1, 1992 when he ripped off a 3:57.61 in the event. Logan Storie of Corvallis also surpassed the meet record with a second-place 3:59.27.
Ending the meet-record skein, Megan Jendrick of KING Aquatics clocked a 1:08.13 in the 100 breast to erase the 1:08.65 set by Amanda Beard on March 1, 2004.
In other women's action, Ariana Kukors of KING Aquatics won the 100 back in 1:04.21, while Corvallis' Saori Haruguchi stopped the clock in 1:01.43 to claim the 100 fly title.
Marty Wahle of Loveland began the men's night by touching out Chris Good of the DU Hilltoppers in the 100 back, 59.03 to 59.16. Meanwhile, Jonathan Hiett of KING Aquatics won the 100 breast in 1:05.05, as he beat Tigard Tualatin's Tom Cole (1:05.36).
Brophy East's Kohei Kawamoto completed the individual titlist group from the night with a time of 54.47 in the 100 fly. He held off Scott Rice of KING Aquatics, who placed second in 54.91.
