The crew behind the upcoming swimming documentary “The Water Is My Sky” has released a new clip, giving viewers a sneak peek at the first two minutes of the film’s introduction. The clip highlights one of its central characters, former US National team member and Olympian Tom Wilkens.

Wilkens is the subject of the 2001 book “Gold in the Water,” written by P.H. Mullen, which chronicles the legendary pro group at the Santa Clara Swim Club in the late 1990’s, and is the original source material for the documentary. The film also follows 2016 Olympic silver medalist Connor Jaeger, who is from the same hometown as Wilkens.

The release of the clip coincides with a call for support from the filmmakers to help finish the project. Last week the crew launched an online campaign via the platform Seed & Spark. The campaign has two components: fundraising and audience building. Within the next three weeks, the crew hopes to:

  1. Raise $6,000 (the campaign has already met this goal)
  2. Gain 1,000 “followers” for their campaign. *Becoming a follower does NOT require a donation

Should the campaign reach these two milestones, they qualify for additional financial aid and marketing support to release the film. To reach the film’s campaign visit here: https://www.seedandspark.com/fund/water-is-my-sky#story

Statement from the film’s director, former University of Iowa swimmer Brian Tremml:

This past weekend marks the five-year anniversary of the start of the journey of The Water is My Sky. Within that time frame the project has grown and evolved several times and we feel we have created something truly special for the swimming community. While we have made outstanding progress on the film, we are in need of help to be able to release the film to the community. To use a swimming metaphor, we are at the flags and need to put our heads down and get into the wall! We appreciate all of the support we have received and cannot wait to share the finished product with the swimming world!”
