Texas Longhorns Narrowly Edge Auburn Tigers in Annual Dual

The University of Texas men’s and women’s Swimming and Diving teams took down the Auburn Tigers at the Martin Aquatics Center on Thursday afternoon, making their record with the Tigers 17-13 for the men and 8-5 for the women.

After today’s action the Longhorns remain ranked first (women) and second (men) in the NCAA.

This is the second straight win on the road for the men and the fifth straight win for the women, continuing the lady Longhorn’s undefeated season.

Scores

Men: Texas 164, Auburn 131

Women: Texas 161, Auburn 139

Highlights

  • Longhorn diver Jordan Windle took wins on both springboard events with scores of 392.70 (1-meter) and 436.88 (3-meter). This marks the first time this season a Longhorn has won both boards in a single dual meet.
  • The Texas men’s 200 medley relay of John Shebat, Charlie Scheinfeld, Jacob Huerta, Tate Jackson swam a time of 1:27.94 to win the event.
  • Longhorns Julia Cook and Ryan Harty took wins in the 100 backstroke with times of 52.55 and 47.69, respectively.
  • Remedy Rule and Sam Pomajevich did the same in the 200 fly, posting times of 1:58.58 and 1:46.80, respectively.
  • Longhorn leaders John Shebat (1:44.91) and Quinn Carrozza (1:55.24) earned a pair of wins in the 200 back.
  • Olympic gold-medalist Townley Haas swam to a win in the 200 free by producing a 1:36.52.
  • Longhorn senior Evie Pfeifer earned a double win in the 500 free (4:46.42) and 200 IM (1:59.50).
  • The Lady Longhorn 400 free relay team of Cook, Anelise Diener, Brooke Hansen and Claire Adams put together a 3:15.95 to cap off the meet with a win.

Both Longhorn squads will have a day of travel tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 11), before arriving in Athens, Ga. to face the University of Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 12.
