Texas A&M Men, Duquesne Women Win 2018 Orange Bowl Swim Classic

The Texas A&M men and Duquesne University women took the team titles at the 2018 Orange Bowl Swim Classic in Key Largo, Florida.

The Orange Bowl Swim Classic is usually a popular attraction for many NCAA teams during their training trip. This year’s edition of the meet only featured three schools; the Texas A&M men, the Duquesne women and the University of South Dakota men’s and women’s teams.

The Aggies took the win with 279 points, while South Dakota scored 169 points. In the women’s meet, Duquesne nabbed the women’s meet with 284 points with South Dakota earned 164 points.

Texas A&M earned wins in all 12 events in Key Largo and earned the top two spots in 11 out of 12 events.

Aggie senior Brock Bonetti, touched first in the 200m IM, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke. who won three individual races and led off the winning 200-meter medley relay. Bonetti posted victories in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 200 IM.

Other Aggie multi-event winner was sophomore Anthony Kim also posted multiple individual victories with wins in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

On the women’s side, the Duquesne Dukes won all 12 events, including relays with senior Emily Thirion leading her team by winning both the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke. Fellow senior Lexi Santer took the sprint freestyles while Abby Watson won the 50m and 100m backstroke. Junior Abigail Stauffer touched first in the 100m breaststroke and 200m IM.

Up next for the Texas A&M squad is a home dual with SEC rival Mizzou this Saturday while Duquesne will host Ohio University and Xavier on next Saturday, January 13th. The South Dakota Coyotes will travel to Omaha next Friday, January 12th.
