Tes Schouten, Tom Dean & Matt Richards Shine At AP Race London International Meet

Tes Schouten swam the third-fastest 100 breaststroke of her career in 1:05.93 while Tom Dean and Matt Richards produced standout performances at the AP Race London International Meet at the Aquatics Centre.

The meet – at the venue that hosted the pool programme at the 2012 London Olympics – features international and domestic swimmers through to grassroots initiatives.

The top five athletes with the highest FINA points swims at the meet will take home prize money with a total pot of £18,000 with the top swimmer taking home £10,000.

The London meet features three sessions: morning prelims with the B and junior finals in the afternoon and Super Finals in the evening with club swimmers alongside Olympic and world medallists.

Men’s Events

Dean was the only man inside 2mins in the 200IM, winning in 1:58.00.

It’s the third-fastest swim by a Briton this year, headed by his own 1:56.65 en-route to the title at last month’s British Championships where he was followed home by Duncan Scott in 1:56.72.

He returned for the 100 free where he finished second behind Richards, the Welshman clocking 48.17 for the third-fastest time of his career, eclipsed only by his 47.72 and 48.02 from the British world trials.

Dean clocked 48.35 – his second best in 2023 – with 50 free winner Dylan Carter third home in 48.65.

The first race of the day saw a battle between Loughborough training mates Felix Auboeck and Dan Wiffen with the Austrian winning in 3:48.41 as the Irish record-holder clocked 3:50.88.

Lucas Matzerath was 0.02 outside his 50 breaststroke PB in 27.01, the third time he has hit that time.

Arno Kamminga – who won the 100 on Saturday – shared second with Melvin Imoudu in 27.16 as two Germans made the podium.

Ondřej Gemov had a dominant win in the 200 fly in 1:57.62, Fritz Dietz won the 50 back in 26.13,

Women’s Events

Schouten is enjoying a fine 2023 having set Dutch records over both 100 (1:05.71) and 200 breaststroke (2:22.21) last month.

On Sunday, she went 1:06.66 in the morning heats before returning to the London Aquatics Centre for the Super Final where she split 31.21/34.72 to go 1:05.93, 0.01 outside the second-best performance of her career of 1:05.92 at the Giant Open in France in March.

It was the seventh-fastest swim in the world this year with the Netherlands swimmer owning three of those performances.

Sophie Hansson – the 2020 European champion – was second in 1:06.99 with Commonwealth gold medallist Lara van Niekerk completing the podium in 1:07.34.

Paige Madden added the 200 to her 400 victory on Saturday, the American dominant in 1:57.62.

Catie Deloof – second behind Loughborough training mate Anna Hopkin in the 50 free on Saturday – won the 100 back, 0.35 ahead of 50 winner Lauren Cox (1:00.88).

Louise Hansson headed the 50 fly in 26.30

Alice Dearing led the 1500 free in 16:50.74, Holly Robinson won the 400IM in 4:54.33
