Team USA Wins Women’s Water Polo Super Final in Montreal
MONTREAL, Canada, July 9. TEAM USA grabbed the FINA Women's Water Polo World League Super Final held in Montreal, Canada over the weekend. The United States doubled up Australia, 8-4, in the gold-medal match.
Overall, Team USA has won three of the four editions of the World League (as it captured wins in 2004 and 2006). The team also claimed the gold medal at the FINA World Championships held in Melbourne, Australia earlier this year.
In the bronze-medal match, Greece downed Canada, 6-4, while Spain took fifth with a 19-8 triumph over China.
Spain's Blanca Gil garnered the best overall scorer award with 36 goals, while Australia's Kate Gynther finished second with 25 tallies. Greece's Antigoni Roumpesi and Angeliki Gerolymou tied for third with 21 goals apiece.
Except the six finalists, seven other teams had participated in the preliminaries of the 2007 FINA Women's Water Polo World League: Germany, Hungary, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Russia.
