Teagan O’Dell Lowers Missy Franklin’s 11-12 National Age Group Record in 200 IM

12-year-old Teagan O’Dell broke Missy Franklin‘s 11-12 national age group record on Thursday night at the 2019 Western Zone Age Group Championships in Gresham, Oregon. O’Dell swam a 2:18.69 to lower the 2:19.12 Franklin set in 2008. O’Dell actually tied the 2016 Olympic Trials cut but will have to swim a 2:17.39 to qualify for the meet in 2020.

O’Dell swims for Chino Hills Aquatics in California and she lowered her best time from a 2:20.07 from July 21 this year. O’Dell also won every single event she swam this week except one. She won the 50 breast (33.60), 100 free (58.31), 200 IM, 100 breast (1:14.46) and 200 breast (2:40.71) and was second in the 100 fly (1:04.60). O’Dell ranks as high as ninth all-time in the 50 breast for 11-12 girls and is eighth in the 100 free.
