Olympic 200m breaststroke champion Tatjana Schoenmaker has been unveiled as a new ambassador for Discovery Vitality, a programme that encourages healthy living.

Schoenmaker became the first woman to break 2:19 when she won the title in Tokyo in July in a world record 2:18.95 and also claimed silver over 100m.

The 24-year-old became the first female South African to win an Olympic title since Penny Heyns won double breaststroke gold at Atlanta 1996.

Schoenmaker discussed Heyns’ influence and how her initial goal for Tokyo was to simply qualify for a final on the Inside with Brett Hawke podcast.
