Taryn Collura Key in Nebraska Win Over Illinois

Taryn Collura won four events for Nebraska as she helped them beat out conference opponent Illinois at home on her senior day. Collura anchored the winning 200 medley relay team (23.07) to finish at 1:44.88. She then went on to win the 50 free at 23.29 and the 100 free at 51.14. She finished off the successful day with a swift 50 free anchor split in the 200 free relay at 22.86. The relay won at 1:35.23.

Collura’s teammate Erin Oeltjen won the backstroke double with a 57.53 and a 2:00.91. Oeltjen also joined Collura on the winning relays with a 25.13 butterfly split in the medley and a 24.05 freestyle split. Other members on the medley relay were Jacqueline Juffer and Jordan Ehly.

Ehly was another triple winner with a 29.99 breaststroke split, a 1:04.85 100 breast and a 2:17.26 200 breast.

Illinois kept the meet close thanks to wins by Sam Stratford in the 200 fly (2:03.95) and the 200 IM (2:05.29). The Illini also did work in the freestyle events with Gabbie Stecker claiming the 1000 with a 10:17.90 and Amelia Schilling in the 200 with a 1:53.49 as well as the 500 with a 5:02.91. Lori Lynn claimed the win in the 100 fly with a 56.81 just ahead of teammate Megan Vuong (56.86).

Nebraska won the meet capping with a win in the 200 free relay that consisted of Alex Bilunas, Bria Deveaux, Oeltjen and Collura. That team came back and out-touched Illinois’s squad who finished seven tenths behind them (1:35.23-1:35.98). The Illini had Lynn, Gabrielle Bethke, Audrey Rodawig and Kirsten Zborek. Nebraska topped Illinois at the end of the day with a score of 162-138.

Nebraska will be in action next weekend with a two-day duel meet at Washington State. Illinois will finish up its duel meet season on the road at Arkansas on the 29th.
