Sydney Pickrem Leads Texas A&M To Win Over LSU

Texas A&M (unranked men, No. 6 women) spoiled senior day for Louisiana State (No. 22 men, No. 23 women). The Aggies took the men’s meet by a score of 158.5-141.5, while the Texas A&M women beat the Tigers 181-119.

The LSU women got off to a good start, taking the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.99. The team consisted of backstroker Haylee Knight, breaststroker Colleen O’Neil, butterflier Kara Kopcso and freestyler Leah Troskot.

In the men’s race, Texas A&M beat the Tigers by just over half a second. Backstroker Brock Bonetti, breaststroker Mauro Castillo Luna, butterflier Justin Morey and freestyler Jacob Gonzales touched in 1:28.44.

Castillo Luna had a big day for the Aggie men, scoring 20 individual points. The sophomore won the 100 (54.63) and 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.55). He also finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (49.65).

Sydney Pickrem was the leading scorer for the Texas A&M women. She scored 20 points, winning the 1000-yard freestyle (10:05.61) and 200-yard individual medley (2:01.34). She also placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.66).

The LSU women were led by Troskot. The junior finished won both the 50 (23.20) and 100-yard freestyle (50.45). Brandon Goldman led the Tiger men with 22 points. The junior won the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.91), 400-yard individual medley (3:55.28) and took second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:46.68).

Troskot continued her big day in the 400-yard freestyle relay, helping the Tigers to a win. Troskot teamed up with Knight, Megan Cox and Daniel Stirrat to post a time of 3:21.47.

LSU also took the men’s relay. Alex Linge, Logan Rysemus, Tyler Harper and Jacob Markham touched in 2:59.65, over two second ahead of the Aggies.

The LSU women swim next weekend against Houston, Rice and Tulane. The Tiger men do not swim again until SEC Championships, which begin on Feb. 16.

The Texas A&M men are back in action against SMU on Jan. 29, while the women are off until SEC Championships.
