After winning the bronze medal in the 400 freestyle on the first night of competition, Hackett placed seventh Wednesday night in the 800 free, where he was the defending champion and world-record holder. Hackett has had a lot of personal issues to deal with lately, including the change of coaches from Denis Cotterell to Ian Pope and an impending marriage.
