Swimming World continues a series in which top coaches share some of the secrets of their success. The June issue of Swimming World Magazine highlights the many accomplishments of Coach Jack Simon.

Odysseus, the ancient Greek king, renowned for his intellectual brilliance, guile and versatility, had nothing on legendary swim coach Jack Simon. A vagabond, in the kindest sense of the word, Simon has finally closed his career after serving as a worldwide head coach from 1959 through 2017.

His stops in the United States (25 years on the U.S Swimming national coaching staff) include stints with the Cincinnati Marlins, Santa Barbara Swim Club and Foxcatcher, and his impact as a globetrotting technician and developer of international talent remains extraordinary.

Stateside, his most recognized athletes are Olympians Paul Hartloff (1976), Libby Kinkead (1980) and three-time Olympic medalist Joe Hudepohl (1992, 1996), world record holder Bruce Stahl, American record holder Anne Tweedy and national champion Patty Gavin.
