Swimming World Presents “Dads On Deck: Pat Murphy”
Dad’s On Deck: Pat Murphy
Sponsored by Tri Swim
Ryan Murphy was one of the rookies on Team USA’s 2016 Olympic squad. The 21-year-old’s Olympic debut was virtu ally flawless. He dominated the 100 back, coming away with gold and a new Olympic record (51.97), added a second gold medal with a win in the 200 back (1:53.62), and on the final night of competition edged Aaron Peirsol’s elusive 100 back World Record with a 51.85 while leading the USA men’s 400 medley relay.
None of these feats would have been possible if not for the love and support of parents Pat and Katy Murphy, who have been there for every step of Murphy’s storied career.
In the December issue of Swimming World Magazine Pat shares some of the swim parent wisdom he has gathered over the years, including the moment he knew young Ryan was a talented swimmer.
