The Top 11 Performances of 2018

This year’s list of the top 10 performances of the year 2018 features world records, second-fastest performances in history and textile bests-and plenty of remarkable swims that didn’t even make the cut. Most notably, British sprinter Ben Proud blasted a 21.11 in the 50 meter free at the European Championships, making him the third fastest swimmer ever…and he’s not on the list. Neither are Russia’s Evgeny Rylov for his 1:53.36 200 back or Germany’s Florian Wellbrock for his 14:36.15 1500 free.

The swims that did make the list come from the years biggest regional meets-the European Championships, Pan Pacific Championships and Asian Games-as well as some smaller meets scattered throughout the year. For the second straight year, Swimming World presents the top five swims by female swimmers and the top five by male swimmers-and as usual, only one performance per swimmer is considered.
