Swimming Technique Misconceptions: Individual Differences

Many people believe that it is worth copying the technique of the fastest swimmers. In reality, even the fastest swimmers have technique limitations, but they offset them with strength and conditioning. The purpose of this series of articles is to address scientifically the technique misconceptions that have become “conventional wisdom,” and to present options that are more effective.

While it is true that individual differences explain variability in human behavior and that of each individual, it is a misconception that a swimmer will be able to optimize their performance with unique technique elements. Rather, it is how an individual reacts to and works with each technique that provides them with additional benefits to their stroke.
