SwimMAC’s Shaelyn Shields Sends 2025 Verbal To Columbia

NEW COMMIT: Columbia University has picked up a new verbal commitment* for the upcoming 2024-25 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Shaelyn Shields of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am excited and honored to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University! I cannot wait to continue my academic and athletic career with such an amazing team. Thank you Coach Diana and Coach Demerae for giving me this incredible opportunity. I would also like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for their endless support! Go Lions!”

Shields does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina. She raced four events at Juniors East back in December and most recently placed third in the 400 IM at the NCS Senior Championships. She finished 20th in the 400m IM at Junior Nationals last summer.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 55.09
  • 200 back – 1:58.33
  • 200 IM – 2:03.13
  • 400 IM – 4:20.09
  • 100 breast – 1:04.55
  • 100 fly – 57.62
  • 100 free – 53.22
  • 200 free – 1:54.42

Shields is currently a junior at Providence Senior High School and is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She placed seventh in the 200 IM and ninth in the 100 back at the 2024 North Carolina 4A State Championships.

Sheilds’ top times in the 100 back and 400 IM would’ve score in the B-final at the 2024 Ivy League Championships.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
