Virginia Tech has added Alex McMurry to the Class of 2021. The Hough High School senior swims for SwimMAC Carolina.
He said of his decision,
“I chose Virginia Tech because of the excellent coaching staff, the strong team atmosphere, and the availability of world-class resources. I’m incredibly excited to be a Hokie and am looking forward to a successful 4 years, both athletically and academically!”
McMurry’s is best at long axis events with backstroke being his specialty. He has a long course juniors cut in the 100 backstroke.
His best times are:
- 50 Back 22.80
- 100 Back 48.81
- 200 Back 1:49.48
- 50 Free 21.41
- 100 Free 47.75
- 200 IM 1:54.52
Last year Hough High School captured the NCHSAA 4A combined state title as the women won the meet and the men secured runner up honors. McMurry led off the team’s second place 200 medley relay. He then finished sixth in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and anchored the fourth place 200 freestyle relay.
Two freshmen, Brent Benedict and Sean Workman, led the Hokies’ 100 backstroke efforts at last year’s ACC Championships. Posting times of 48.16 and 48.25 the duo should provide great training partners for McMurry in his first two years in Blacksburg.
