SwimMac Carolina Takes Down 13-14 NAG in 800-Yard Freestyle Relay

During Sunday intrasquad action, the SwimMac Carolina squad of Max Osman, Mason Turner, Norvy Clontz and Granger Bartee set a 13-14 National Age Group record in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The foursome was timed in 6:55.16, which shaved nearly a second off the previous record of 6:55.96, set in 2014 by the Cincinnati Marlins.

Osman opened the relay with a split of 1:42.91 and was followed by Turner (1:41.84), who registered the team’s fastest split. Clontz checked in with a third leg of 1:46.21, which set the stage for Bartee to go 1:44.20. The quartet also broke the North Carolina LSC record for the age group in the 400 medley relay, thanks to a time of 3:27.20. Turner was 51.10 on the backstroke leg and was followed by Clontz with a 58.41 mark on breaststroke. Bartee went 50.22 on the butterfly leg and Osman anchored the freestyle leg in 47.47.

Turner, Osman and Bartee were also part of the relay that set the North Carolina 13-14 record in the 400 freestyle relay. They were joined by John Kroll, with the relay clocking 3:10.70.

“Consistency and gratefulness have been two of our main talking points this season,” said lead age-group coach Russ Kasl. “With not knowing when or what type of opportunities would be available for competition, we constantly emphasized to our swimmers the need to be prepared. Relay opportunities are no different and their enthusiasm for it certainly showed. I’m very excited for these young men in how they performed and how it will help to inspire others in our program.”

The 10-and-under squad of Cooper Raniszeski, Reid Cooler, Connor McCarthy and Scott Williams covered the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:02.48, good for a North Carolina LSC record.
