Swim Poll of the Week: Which Option is Best For All Athletes Preparing For the Olympic Games?

This is the Swim Poll of the Week for Thursday, March 26, 2020, sponsored by Strechcordz Swim Training Products. In our last poll, we wanted to know: Which Option is Best For All Athletes Preparing For the Olympic Games?

The Olympic Games were being threatened of cancellation after the coronavirus pandemic caused events all around the world to be postponed or cancelled. A lot of athletes were left without a means of adequate training and were often putting themselves in harm’s way to try and train for their respective Trials which were coming up in the next three months.

That left the question: what was the best option for the Olympic Games to ensure everyone was going to be at their best when it came time to compete? Would have it been better to hold the Games later this year like in November or December? Or would postponing them an entire year to 2021 be the better option? Or was it not feasible at all to hold the Games due to the lucrative contracts that have been made behind the scenes regarding TV contracts, sponsorships, etc?

Ultimately, the IOC answered our question and postponed the Games to 2021. An official date has not been finalized but it is a sigh of relief for all athletes and coaches around the world who can now focus on staying healthy and slowing this pandemic, and then get back to training when it is safe to do so.

We asked for the swim poll and you answered with…

Here are the answers:

Postponement to 2021 – 79%

Postponement to late 2020 – 19%

Cancellation – 2%
