Over the weekend, Swim Ireland named its Performance Athletes of the Year, and the honors went to Olympic diver Oliver Dingley and Paralympic swimmer Ellen Keane.

Dingley, Ireland’s first diver to qualify for an Olympic Games since 1948, finished an impressive eighth in the men’s three-meter springboard event in Rio this summer, while Keane, in her third trip to the Paralympic Games, won a bronze medal in the SB8 100 breaststroke this past September, and she also qualified for the final in the 100 back and 100 fly.

Swim Ireland also recognized Mona McSharry as the Junior Performance Athlete of the Year. The 16-year-old picked up a silver medal in the women’s 100 breast and a bronze in the 50 breast at the European Junior Championships in July, and she also finished sixth in the 200 breast at that meet. She also won five Irish National titles in April and set Irish Junior records in both the 100 and 200 breast.

Performance Coach of the Year honors went to Damian Ball, who coached Dingley to his excellent performance in Rio and also leads a group of up-and-coming divers at the National Aquatic Centre.
