Sun Yang Wins Third National Championship in Quindao

Sun Yang has alreayd posted the top times in the world in both the 400 free and 200 free at the Chinese national championships in Quindao, and on the fourth day of the meet he flexed his muscle in the 800 free and 100 free.

He won the 800 free in 7:48.33, moving to third in the world this year, touching in 7:48.33. Qiu Zhao was not far away, finishing second in 7:52.59 to also move into the world top-five, and Gao Xuelei was third in 7:56.73.

Also during the season, Sun edged Lin Yongqin for the top seed in the men’s 100 free semifinals, 49.13 to 49.13. Yu Hexin qualified third in 49.42.

Ai Yanhan led the way into the wall in a quick women’s 200 free final. She won the event in 1:56.72, just two hundredths ahead of Li Bingjie (1:56.74), who herself was just five hundredths ahead of Shen Duo (1:56.79). Those times rank sixth, seventh and eighth in the world, respectively, and set up China to have an 800 free relay that could challenge for a world title.

Li Zhuhao won his second men’s butterfly title of the meet with a time of 1:55.09 in the 200-meter event. That was good for third in the world this year and was more than two seconds ahead of Wang Zhou (1:57.10) and Yu Yingbao (1:57.27).

Yan Zibei won the 50 breast in a quick 27.34 to move to eighth in the world and finish ahead of Zhang Zhihao (27.54) and He Zilog (27.55).

Fu Yuanhui posted the fourth-fastest time in the world in the women’s 50 back, 27.74, to qualify first for that final, ahead of Liu Xiang (27.85) and Chen Jie (27.89), while Li Shuang edged out Zhou Yilin to take the top seed in the women’s 200 fly, 2:09.14 to 1:09.43. Zhu Jiaming qualified third in 2:10.36.

Olympic bronze medalist Wang Shun entered the world top-five in the men’s 200 IM, qualifying first out of semifinals in 1:58.95. Well back in second and third, respectively, were Qin Haiyang (2:00.37) and Mao Feilian (2:01.38).
